Stargazing requires zero special equipment, just a coat, a dark patch of grass, and a little patience while your eyes adjust to the dark. As the Earth passes through the debris left by Halley's Comet, streaks of light cross the upper atmosphere. This celestial display arrives right as the broader sky shifts gears, bringing a wave of planetary weather you can feel in your daily routines. ## What is happening in the sky right now The astronomy is straightforward: Earth is sweeping through a trail of cosmic dust. Astrologically, this outdoor moment kicks off a dense stretch of transits. On October 23, the Sun enters Scorpio, turning our collective focus toward depth, shared resources, and honest conversations. Right behind it, on October 24, Mercury stations retrograde (appearing to move backward) in Scorpio, asking you to double-check travel plans and unsent messages before hitting send. You can explore your personal approach to these shifts by checking your [birth chart](https://12horoscope.com/en/birth-chart) to see which house Scorpio rules for you. As you look up tonight, heavier aspects are also forming overhead. The Sun forms an exact square to Pluto on October 26, creating tension that pushes you to address power dynamics you might have swept under the rug. Later in the week, on October 30, Mercury forms a square to Mars, making it easy to snap at a coworker or fire off a hasty reply. Instead of reacting instantly, channel that restless fire into a long walk or clearing out your inbox. ## Step-by-step stargazing tips for tonight Watching shooting stars is an antidote to screen fatigue. Follow these simple steps to make the most of the clear night air: * **Pick your spot:** Find a park, backyard, or open field away from blinding streetlights. * **Dress for the chill:** Grab a heavy sweater, a warm blanket, and a thermos of tea. Comfort keeps you outside longer. * **Give your eyes 20 minutes:** Put your phone away entirely. Once your eyes adjust to the dark, you will catch faint streaks of light you would otherwise miss. * **Look toward the east:** You do not need a telescope. Just lie back, look up at the wide expanse of the sky, and let your gaze wander.
